What's interesting
about this concert...

  • Pianist Katie Mahan is particularly distinguished as an interpreter of the music of George Gershwin. Her greatest pianistic influence came from her studies with the celebrated French pianist Pascal Rogé, with whom she studied the music of the French Impressionists.

  • A century of Gershwin: Rhapsody in Blue is celebrating its 100th anniversary! Composed in 1924, it is a groundbreaking, genre-fusing piece that blends elements of classical music  with jazz and blues.

  • In "El Salón México," Aaron Copland draws inspiration from Mexican folk music and dance forms. The piece captures the lively and vibrant atmosphere of a Mexican dance hall, or "salón," through its rhythmic and melodic elements.
