A Message to Jefferson Symphony Patrons,

March 20, 2020

Dear Patron,

We regret that the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra had to cancel our Sunday, March 15 concert on short notice due to health concerns and the closing of our venue at the School of Mines. The Coronavirus epidemic and restrictions on assembly has caused most all performing arts organizations to curtail operations.

Not only are we prohibited from having concerts, our rehearsals have had to be canceled due to assembly restrictions and/or lack of available rehearsal venues. As an organization, we have no higher priority than keeping both our audiences and our musicians and staff safe from the spread of this disease.

These factors have led to a decision by the JSO Board of Directors to also cancel the scheduled May 03, 2020 Season Finale concert. The Green Center at the School of Mines is closed through May 08, 2020 and even if JSO had an alternate concert venue, we would not be able to rehearse sufficiently to prepare for a concert. Our group of 70+ musicians is very disappointed that we will not be able to share our music with you. For the same reasons, we have also cancelled both of the Symphony Showcase recitals scheduled for Friday, May 8, 2020 and Saturday, May 9, 2020.

As you know, the Jefferson Symphony is comprised of volunteer musicians, but that does not mean the orchestra has no ongoing expenses. We had already rented or purchased music for the canceled concerts, paid for moving crews and equipment for the March concert, and have ongoing office and administrative expenses. We rely on season ticket revenue and the generosity of our donors to keep the music playing.

We want to be sure that our Season Ticket patrons are treated fairly, even though the circumstances leading to these cancellations are totally out of our control. Therefore, we are offering the following options to our Season Ticket patrons:

Option 01 - Donate

You may treat the portion of your season ticket purchase attributable to the canceled concerts as a tax-deductible donation to the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra. Please contact our office if you need documentation of the donation.

Option 02 - Credit

You may request a credit of two-fifths (we canceled two of our five concerts) of the amount you paid for your season ticket for this season toward the purchase of a 2020-2021 season ticket when they are available.

Option 03 - Exchange

You may request that we issue tickets for concerts of your choice during the 2020-21 season in exchange the two canceled concerts.

For each option, you may contact our office with your decision or you can use our online

Concert Cancellation Options. We are hopeful that our Season Ticket patrons will find one of the three options above satisfactory. However, if you would like to explore other alternatives you can contact the JSO office directly. We would like you to choose any one of the above options by June 01, 2020 so there is no rush.

Thank you for your ongoing support of the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra. We are so fortunate to have so many Season Ticket patrons like you who keep the music playing. Together we will get through this difficult time and emerge stronger than before.

I wish you all well,

Jim Everson, Chairman

Jefferson Symphony Association Board
