The Jefferson Symphony Orchestra (JSO) will be presenting “Fantastique”, a special Mother’s Day Concert on May 9, including the debut performance of the Golden Overture.
Guest artist, Rodney Farrar, cellist will be joining the 90-member orchestra. Mr. Farrar is a native of Ann Arbor, Michigan and is a graduate of Oberlin Conservatory of Music. He was a member of the Rochester (NY) Philharmonic Orchestra before taking a position as cello instructor at the University of Kentucky where he taught for many years. Mr. Farrar will be performing Concerto No. 1 for Violoncello and Orchestra by Shostakovich.
JSO will be performing retired Associate Conductor David Ackerman’s Golden Overture which he wrote commemorating Golden’s 150th birthday. The score was presented to the Golden City Council on October 22, 2009. At the February 21st concert this year, Jacob Smith, Mayor of the City of Golden proclaimed, “Golden’s sincere gratitude to Dr. David Ackerman, Dr. William Morse, and Chair Dennis Orr, and the entire Jefferson Symphony Orchestra for your contribution to Golden’s 150th anniversary celebration and your continued musical regalement of the Golden Community”.
In addition, JSO will be performing Symphonie Fantastique by Berlioz.
JSO delivers 5 regular concerts and 2-3 summer concerts each year under the direction of Dr. William Morse. The Symphony is supported in part by the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD).
